PNF Stretching
Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching combines static stretching with voluntary muscle contractions to help increase flexibility and joint range of motion.
PNF stretching typically involves moving a muscle into a stretched position, performing a brief isometric contraction against resistance, and then relaxing before moving into a deeper stretch. It can be performed with a partner or, for some stretches, independently using a strap or other form of resistance.
PNF stretching can be particularly effective for improving flexibility and increasing range of motion. Like static stretching, it is generally best performed when the muscles are already warm, making it well suited to the end of a workout or a dedicated flexibility session.
