Static Stretching

Static stretching involves gradually lengthening a muscle to a comfortable end range and holding the position for a period of time, without bouncing or repeated movement.

Static stretching is best performed when the muscles are already warm, as warmer tissues are more extensible and the body is better prepared to move comfortably through a greater range of motion. For this reason, static stretching is generally better suited to the end of a workout rather than the beginning.
